Car Trip to Linchuan to meet Emily's Foster Mom
Our friends, the Salo's, are here in China with us.  They were part of the group that we came to China with in 1999 to adopt our daughters, so it seemed appropriate that 8 1/2 years later we all travel together back to visit the girls' foster mothers.
We creatively put 11 people in an 8 passenger vehicle for the 2.5 hour trip...real cozy!
A big highway with very few cars.  Yup -- this is the exit.
Emily meets her foster Mom, Lin Pei Chei, and  foster Grandma who took care of her for the 1st year of her life.

Here we are with the whole family! Left to right: Lin Pei Chei's son and very pregnant daughter-in-law, her nephew, her older brother, her mother, us, and Lin Pei Chei herself.

Looking at photos of Emily as a baby.  Our friend Elina (in orange scarf) came as our interpreter with her 3 year old daughter Talia.
This is the crib that Emily slept in as a baby.  Ms. Lin has it out for her soon to be born grandchild.
Emily poses with Grandma and Ms. Lin in front of her old crib.
Maya meets her foster mom and foster brother.
Tim tries to explain to Maya's foster family what a Geoduck is!  Do you know what a Geoduck is?  Here's a hint, it's butt ugly and lives under the sand.
Happy to be together.
The house where Emily lived from about 3 months to 1 year old.  Before that she lived with her foster family in the same apartment building where Maya lived.
We all walk down the street to a restaurant for lunch.
A  Linchuan street.  We caused an accident between a bike and a moped because the drivers thought we were more interesting than the road in front of them.
Scott cracks grandma up with his witty banter.
Grandma takes a moment to give Emily a hug and says that she hopes Emily will come back as an adult someday.
Emily and grandma.  We learned that grandma is 76 and was one of 8 siblings.
Emily and Ms. Lin.  Ms. Lin has fostered 20 children, and  Emily is the third to come back to visit.
A view of Linchuan from Maya's foster mom's 8th floor apartment.  Emily had her photo taken at this statue with her foster mother when she was 11 months old.  We have that picture, and Kelly has always wanted to see the spot where it was taken...mission completed!
Recreating the photo 8 1/2 years later.
Emily and Maya found out that they used to play together as babies. They are truly friends forever!
Maya and her foster mother (not too much height difference)
Did you notice that the statue is in the middle of a traffic circle?  It is!
This woman was the foster mother to another girl in our adoption group, Dana.  She was happy to hear that all 3 girls are friends and get together occasionally.
Dana's foster mother and father.
As usual, we drew a crowd, including the doctor that took care of Emily when she was sick.  Who are the others, you ask.....curious onlookers enjoying the spectacle that is us!
