Su He Village
Suhe is another old village. It is across the valley from Lijiang Old Town.  You can take a cab from Lijiang to Suhe for 12 RMB.  There is no fee to enter this town even though people try to tell you that there is.  The town is full of shops, why would they want to discourage people from going there.  The town is set against a mountain... yeah.. I'd call it a mountain, it's definitely more than a hill.  I went up into the mountains behind Suhe on another day.
Here's a picture of Suhe from a near by hill.  We actually ended up here later in the day.
You can take a horse and buggy ride from the new part of Suhe to the old part.  The new part is where the cabs let you off.  The Rabers didn't do the buggy.  We walked!  That buggy ride would cost something like 6 bucks!  That's crazy talk..  he.. he.
And... you would miss this beautiful sceane.
Lady.. you gota bend at the knees.
Ahh pine needles.  So good, and so good for you!
Kelly and Emily walking into town.  That hill behind is where the first picture was taken from.
The streets are lined with shops and restaurants.  The people live behind their shops and restaurants.
There are fields of vegetables all around the town.
We choose a restaurant to have lunch at.  This restaurant was typical with family living quarters in the back and restaurant up front.  There was open space in the middle.  We got chatting with the young woman you see in the background.  Her English was really good.  Turns out she is Korean and is marring the son of the family that owns this restaurant.  Their wedding was about 5 days away.  He is Chinese, Naxi I think.  We were not seated long when this older woman came out and sat right next to us on the other side of that railing.  She just sat there and looked at us curiously, and smiled.  The young woman told us that the old woman was her fiancées aunt from a town about 100 Km away.  The young woman told us that she does not think that the old woman had ever seen a western foreigner before.
Emily and a little friend at the restaurant.
Kelly shows us her barbequed fish.  It was fantastic!  They use some kind of spice that is out of this world.  Not too hot and really interesting flavor.
We were joined by a couple of canine friends.  I haven't eaten with a dog around the table in a long time.  We didn't mind having them there.   The owners shoo them off a few times.. but they came back.
Ahhh.. here we are on that hill taking an afternoon walk after lunch.  There was no one else up here.  I later used this access to go for a long walk back in the hills.  It is a really fun landscape to walk in because the forest is not dense, due to the arid weather.
On the way back to the town gate Emily got to ride on a ponyyyyyy.  Her favorite thing about this trip.
Emily, the pony, and the pony's person.
