Shanghai with Aunt Tracy
At the end of Aunt Tracy's trip we all went up to Shanghai a few days before her flight to show her some sites.
We spent some time in an old part of town called Yu Yuan Market.
Emily and Scott on a typical street out side of the touristy area known as Yu Yuan.
Now were getting closer to Yu Yuan.
This next picture really captures the spirit of Yu Yuan and the surrounding area.
Now we are inside the Yu Yuan market area. I goes on like this for many blocks. All of these buildings surround a small lake and park. Unfortunately I did not get a picture of the lake. Tracy kept saying things like, "Wow, I just passed the entire population of Kingston in one block".
Ummm...
It's a tree...
and you buy a little metal thing with a red ribbon tied on it..
and you throw it in the tree.
I don't know why!!
But it's a safe guess to assume that it is for good luck.
All of these sorts of things are for good luck.
Here is a picture from another part
of town...
The point of this picture is that
it is a very common site. It is a typical Shanghai alley. This is
where many, many, Shanghai people live. They cook food outside in these
alleys, wash cloths, hang them out to dry, and sit and rest in these
allies.
To me they look like very friendly places...
